Two people working in warm bar space, preparing food and drinks.

Found in the heart of Carlton, sunhands is an all-day eatery and wine bar with a deep appreciation for seasonality and craftsmanship.

We celebrate the growers, makers, and producers of Victoria and beyond, bringing their passion to the plate in a space designed for connection and ease.

More than just a café or wine bar, sunhands is a neighbourhood meeting place—somewhere to drop in for a morning coffee, linger over a long lunch, or ease into the evening with a glass of wine in hand. Whether you’re here for our signature sunhands plate, a nostalgic dippy egg, a fresh seasonal salad, or a leisurely aperitivo, our menu is designed to fit seamlessly into Melbourne’s ever-changing moods. Thoughtful lead and curated by head chef Phil Tran.

Founded by Ishella Butler, a first-time business owner with a passion for hospitality, and Nathan Doyle, co-owner of Heartattack and Vine and Residence, sunhands is a reflection of its surroundings: a venue that embraces its community, catering to both the locals who call Carlton home, make it their workplace or those who are just passing through.

suppliers we work with

At Sunhands, we focus on sourcing seasonal produce and high-quality ingredients from small-scale, local producers who prioritise sustainability. We work with farmers, growers, and makers who share our values, ensuring that our menu reflects the best of what’s in season.

Our wine list features Australian wines made with natural and biodynamic practices, showcasing the work of local winemakers. We also select beverages and teas that complement our food while supporting ethical, sustainable practices.

By partnering with these producers, we bring you fresh, flavourful food and drinks that support local communities and promote responsible sourcing.

Sunhands acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land where we work and live, the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
